What Fukuoka is
Fukuoka, with a population of 1.4 million, has two major urben centers Fukuoka City and Kitakyushu City and serves as a major international and domestic gateway to the island. On the northern coastod Kyushu, it lies closer to Seoul, Korea, than Tokyo.
Fukuoka was the historical important city as not only the government of Kyushu, but also as the diffencive city from the invation. In the 13th century, Fukuoka faced to the fear of the invation from Mongol forces. They were able to repel the first attack by their own. But, Japanese safed Mongol's second attack by a Typhoon. This gift from heaven was called "divine wind" or kamikaze.
Today, Fukuoka is a modern, internationally oriented commercial and business center with a highly developed port and coast area. Fukuoka presents no shortage of urban pleasures such as great shopping, diverse and cultural experience, and wonderful entertainment.

By Air
Fukuoka air terminal is One of Japan's busiest international hub and has excellent connections throughout Asia and Japan.

By Shinkansen (Bullet train)
The Sanyo Shinkansen line from Hiroshima, Osaka and beyond serves Kokura Station in Kitakyushu and terminates at Hakata Station in Fukuoka. The Tokai Shinkansen "Nozomi" line a trip of all the way from Tokyo to Fukuoka.

By boat (ferry)
Fukuoka is also the gateway to South Korea via Busan by ferry, and a few ferry companies (including JR) operate the route.
Also, some ferry companies operate daily night and day ferry servecies Tokyo and Kyushu, Osaka and Kyushu.
The journey between Tokyo and Kyushu takes 2 days, and costs from 7,000 to 20,000.
